  • Dr. James Black
    Doctor

James D. Black, Jr., D.P.M., M.Sc., is a board-certified physician, specializing in medical and surgical care of the foot. Dr. Black has 39 years of experience and is committed to providing the finest quality podiatric care for his patients. The St. John Providence Health System, now Ascension St. John, recently celebrated Dr. Black’s dedicated service of more than 25 years on staff.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Shaker Heights, Dr. Black attended Ohio University and went on to earn a Master of Science in Biomechanics. He worked for several years at the Cleveland Clinic in the field of Biomechanics Research, during which time Dr. Black developed a reverse staining technique used in research and also various methods to use bone cement in orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Black completed his medical degree at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and an internship in Ada, Oklahoma, followed by his residency at Straith Memorial Hospital, specializing in Podiatric and Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Black actively pursues the latest developments in podiatric care and general medicine by personally and virtually attending both local and national podiatric conferences, national orthopaedic conferences, and regional innovative lectures on such core issues as lower extremity arterial disease.

Dr. Black actually caught the biggest Musky in Lake St. Clair's history on this side of the Canadian border!
Dr. Black is on the right with the blue and black jacket.

Spending time with his family is part of Dr. Black’s exuberance; there’s nothing like the smiles and the squeals of excitement from his grandchildren when they see their Papa. Dr. Black is a talented sailor and has historically been on the winning team of many a race around the country. He is also an avid fisherman, excellent chef, gardener, and master builder of detailed and diverse model ships. Ergo Dr. Black’s greatest joys are truly his family and helping his patients feel better. Sometimes that can be accomplished by deploying something minor; other times that may be saving a life by discovering a blood clot of which no one else was aware. Not as pivotal, but definitely exhilarating, would be slicing through a heavy swell in a Dragon sailboat, racing in 30-knot winds, temperatures hovering around 30 degrees, and waves 8 to 10 feet high. For Dr. Black, the pure joy of being with family, seeing people heel, and experiencing the foam, splash, and sound of breaking waves is the essence of life.

  • Maj-Britt Black
    Office Manager

Maj-Britt (pronounced “My-Britt”, a familiar name in Denmark and Sweden) is a Registered Nurse graduate of Trumbull Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, affiliated with Kent State University. She has years of experience at an Urgent Care Center, the Cleveland Clinic, and Crittenton Hospital – all primarily in specialized, high-pressure areas such as ICU, ER, and Recovery Room – where Maj-Britt was usually assigned to the position of Charge Nurse and/or was “on-call”. Maj-Britt has also worked in a private doctor’s office; in an Endoscopy/Colonoscopy department; and as an in-patient Chemotherapy Nurse mixing the medications, starting IV’s, and educating and communicating with patients on a real and personal level. She has spoken at several conferences and values her time spent teaching hospital Residents the technique of aspiration and biopsy of bone marrow.

Maj-Britt appreciates connecting with patients, bridging a good relationship with them. She enjoys meeting new people and finding ways they can interrelate; doing her work and delivering exceptional results that can make life easier for Dr. Black; and of utmost importance, Maj-Britt rejoices in being with her family as often as possible. She also finds joy in interior design particularly that of kitchens, designing Dr. Black’s office, listening to music of all kinds, bird-watching, shopping on eBay, and especially drawing and painting. But at the top of Maj-Britt's list of fun things to do is singing and clapping hands with her youngest grandchild, playing and reading with her grandchildren that are a bit older, and dancing and laughing with any of her grandchildren.
